Chris McDonough

Special Counsel

Chris McDonough serves as a consultant to Foley Griffin in the area of professional ethics. With decades of experience representing attorneys and advising law firms throughout New York, Chris continues to provide valuable guidance and insight to the firm and its clients.

Prior to joining Foley Griffin, Chris served as Assistant Counsel to the Grievance Committee for the Tenth Judicial District, where he prosecuted grievance matters before the Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department. In January 2003, he entered private practice, focusing exclusively on grievance defense, judicial defense, admissions, character and fitness representation, risk management, and serving as an ethics expert and resource for small and medium-sized law firms throughout New York. In 2017, Chris joined Foley Griffin as Special Counsel, a role in which he continues to serve today.

Throughout his career, Chris has devoted much of his time to educating lawyers and law students. He has taught ethics as an adjunct professor in law school and has created and presented hundreds of continuing legal education courses for bar associations, Lawline, and other private providers. He has written dozens of articles for law reviews, the New York Law Journal, and numerous bar association journals. He has also served on the Nassau Academy of Law, the Committee on Professional Ethics for the Nassau County Bar Association, and the Ethics Committee for the New York State Bar Association.

Chris continues to play an important role as a consultant to Foley Griffin, providing guidance on professional ethics, risk management, and professional responsibility matters while also enjoying more time with his wife, Diana, and his children.
